How to cleanse with incense
Share
We are often asked how to cleanse with incense, what to think about and which incense to use. In this article, we will answer exactly this, simply step by step.
Step 1 - Choose your incense
Choosing which incense you wish to use is entirely up to you. You can use palo santo, sage, incense sticks, cones, etc. Choose what you feel comfortable with.
The scent that the incense carries has a certain meaning as we symbolize certain scents to certain feelings, goddesses/deities, places or purposes. Many people prefer sage or palo santo to cleanse as they have used it long ago to specifically cleanse from energies and welcome in new ones.
Step 2 - Intentions
The most important thing when you cleanse is to set one or more clear intentions. For example. if you want to clear a room say out loud or in your head "I clear all energy that weighs down, that brings negativity. You/you are not welcome here. I clear all stagnant energy and allow a new flow to come in."
Say this in your head or out loud while lighting your incense. Also think about how you touch the incense, if you walk or touch the incense in a clockwise direction you bring in energy and in a counterclockwise direction you remove energy. For example. If you want to remove energy, move the incense in a counter-clockwise direction and in a clockwise direction when you want to bring in new energy.
Remember to have a window or door open so that the energy can be carried away with the smoke out of the place.
Step 3 - What can be cleansed with incense?
You can cleanse objects, crystals, decks, the home, places or people. Where you feel that stagnant energy is stuck or where you feel negative energy coming from.
When do you know you need to clean?
You may feel drained or sense an observation in places, then it may be good to cleanse the place of the negative or stagnant energies that are stuck.
Objects or crystals can suddenly feel very light or heavy when you hold them, or that a deck of cards or a pendulum e.g. stops giving you answers. Then it's time to clean the objects.
There is no rule on how often or when to clean a place or an object, here you need to trust your feeling and intuition.
